Jeri.com chatted with Tiago Orefice, Sports Manager of ClubVentos, the main teaching and equipment rental center for windsurfing, kitesurfing, SUP (Stand up paddle), kayaking and surfing in the village to discuss the sports that everyone is so passionate about in this small village. Check out:
Jeri.com: Tiago, what sports do you offer here at the Club?
Tiago: “We offer classes and equipment rentals for kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing and SUP (Stand UP paddle). Our instructors are trained and certified to offer quality lessons that are incredibly fun and safe for all our students. Our center is located in the beautiful surroundings of Jericoacoara, right on the seafront with a great team of instructors and a safety boat always on the water to follow our clients and keep them safe. As Jeri is well known in the watersports industry, people from all over the world come here in search of this experience. That's why we offer classes in Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, German, Dutch and Italian”.

Jeri.com: What is the minimum age to participate?
Tiago: “The minimum age depends on the size of the child and their familiarity with the water. We can stipulate that children from 8 years old can practice one of these sports, but they will need to have a conversation with the instructors here at the Club on the first day. At that moment we can assess physical fitness and if they really know how to swim and turn in the water. Ideally, a responsible person should always accompany classes, even if they are on the verge, to give safety to the child in the first steps of this new adventure!”
Jeri.com: When is the best time of year to practice a wind-dependent sport here in Jeri?
Tiago: “Jericoacoara is a destination that has become super attractive for watersports due to the region's winds. The wind has already started (July) and last through to January. If you want to windsurf or kitesurf, the best months are from July to January. For those who are looking for surfing, SUP, or even biking through our beaches (the Club also offers E-bike rides to Pedra Furada), they can come any time of the year”.
Jeri.com: How long does it take for a beginner to start turning alone in the sea?
Tiago: “It depends on the sport and individuality of the student. The SUP usually only needs a lesson to feel confident on the sea, the board, the paddle and the winds. Surfing also depends on the individual and their confidence to venture on the baord and try new things. For windsurfing we offer a 4h30 course for beginners, which can be divided up to 3 days. The kitesurf course for beginners is 9 hours long and is usually divided into 3 or 4 days, but all students who complete those hours receive the IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) certification as a sailor. It is a card, issued here in the Club itself, that shows the level of learning. It is an international certificate and only we are the only center with the ability to issue it here in Jeri. After 9 hour of the course, 80% of students leave with the ability to kitesurf, which is awesome”.
